Our History

In 1989 Hopewell Independent Baptist Church was established on the grounds of what was formerly Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church, with Bro. Barney B. Bearden as pastor. Bro. Bearden was a faithful leader until his death in 1995.

The church continued until the fall of 2005, when by a unanimous vote Bro. Michael Carpenter was called to the pastorate. Under the leadership of Pastor Carpenter the church has grown steadily in spirit and in number to its present state today. The preaching and teaching of sound doctrine from the King James Bible has formed Hopewell into a like minded group of bible believing Christian’s with a heart for the community and compassion for lost souls all around the world.
